Multi-File Edits Changed How I Build

Editing many files in one pass changed how I plan features. The shape of a change matters more than the size of any single file inside it.

For a long time, building a feature meant opening one file, editing it, then moving to the next. The model would help inside a single file, but the connections between files still had to be carried in my head.

Once edits could span many files at once, the unit of work shifted. The model could see the whole change as one shape, and I started planning features by their edges instead of their centers.

What changed

  • Features planned as one shape
  • Less manual wiring between files
  • Faster to try a direction
  • Smaller cost to reverse a decision

The biggest shift was not speed. It was that the boundary of a change stopped being a file.
